What is Embroidery?
Embroidery is a premium customization technique where your design is stitched directly into the fabric using high-quality threads. Unlike printing, which sits on top of the material, embroidery becomes part of the garment itself, creating a raised, textured effect that's both visually striking and incredibly durable.
The Process:
Your logo or design is digitized into a stitch file, which guides our computerized embroidery machines to precisely recreate every detail with needle and thread. Each color in your design uses a different thread, layered stitch by stitch to build dimension and depth. The result is a professional finish that adds perceived value to any garment.
Design Guidelines
Size & Placement Recommendations
Chest/Left Chest (Most Popular):
- Standard: 9-10cm wide
- Optimal size for polo shirts and button-downs
- Positioned 7-8cm down from shoulder seam
Full Chest/Center:
- 15-25cm wide
- Great for larger logos on jackets and uniforms
Sleeve:
- 5-8cm wide
- Usually positioned on upper left or right sleeve
Back:
- 25-35cm wide (full back)
- Ideal for team names, large logos, or statements
- Positioned between shoulder blades
Cap Front:
- 10-12cm wide maximum
- Centered above the brim
General Rule: Smaller placements (under 5cm) may lose detail. Larger placements (over 30cm) may increase cost due to higher stitch counts. We'll advise on optimal sizing during the quoting process.
File Format Requirements:
- Vector files: AI, EPS, PDF, or SVG (these scale perfectly and give us the cleanest digitization)
- High-resolution raster files: PNG or JPG at minimum 300 DPI if vector isn't available
Why Vector Matters: Vector files allow us to scale your design to any size without losing quality, ensuring perfect embroidery whether it's a small chest logo or a large back design.
Don't Have Vector Files? No problem! Send us what you have, and we can often recreate or digitize your logo for a small setup fee.
Color Considerations:
Thread Color Options: We stock over 60 standard thread colors and can match most Pantone colors. Typical color palettes include vibrant primaries, professional neutrals, metallics, and specialty threads.
Color Limitations:
- Each color requires a separate thread change, so limiting your design to 1-4 colors is most cost-effective
- Extremely close color shades may not show the distinction you expect—aim for clear contrast
- Gradients and blends are difficult in embroidery; consider simplified color versions of complex designs
Color Matching: Provide Pantone color codes or specific thread color preferences, and we'll match as closely as possible with our thread library.
Ideal Applications
- Polo Shirts & Button-Downs : Embroidery on the chest or sleeve creates a polished, professional look that's perfect for client meetings and everyday business wear.
- Jackets & Outerwear: From lightweight windbreakers to heavy winter coats, embroidery stands up to the weight and texture of outer layers. Ideal for larger logos on the back or subtle branding on the chest.
- Caps & Headwear: Embroidery is the industry standard for caps, beanies, and visors. The structured stitching holds up beautifully on curved surfaces and adds dimension that printing simply can't match.
- Bags & Backpacks: Durable enough for high-use items like tote bags, laptop bags, and backpacks. Your logo stays sharp even with daily wear.
- Uniforms & Workwear When durability matters most, embroidery delivers. Perfect for hospitality, healthcare, construction, and service industry uniforms that need to withstand frequent laundering.
Ideal Logo & Design Types
deal Logo & Design Types:Embroidery works best with simple, bold designs that feature clean lines: 0.25” in height and at least 0.05” thick.
Company logos, wordmarks, and text elements embroider with crisp clarity.
Badges, crests, and geometric symbols also stand out beautifully, giving a professional and premium look.
⚠️ Designs Less Suitable for Embroidery
Embroidery has physical limits, some designs don’t translate well into thread. Avoid These Design Elements::
Avoid These Design Elements:
- Overly complex gradients or shading
- Very fine lines or delicate serif fonts
- Designs with excessive detail in small areas
- Photographic images (consider printing instead)
- Text smaller than 6mm in height
💡 Tip: If your logo includes fine details, we can help adapt it for embroidery before production.
